Peace, Mirth and Mourning (2020)

There is a large, overgrown cemetery near my apartment. I started walking there every day during the early days of COVID-19 pandemic, and quickly recognized it was more than merely a place of mourning. On the contrary, this cemetery is a surprisingly comforting place, imbued with a subtle, but palpable vitality.

This vitality draws people in, encouraging them to lose themselves among the many tombs, pathways and quiet groves. These people come to the cemetery to wander, read, play, hide, spend time with loved ones, or simply to be alone. Peace, Mirth and Mourning is a tribute to this cemetery, and to the people who use it to escape the bustling city that surrounds it.
